From the Diary of Knowledgeable Nelly
Dear Diary,
Today, my teacher, Mr. Smartie suggested that if any student is interested in seeing what spectacular things can be done with a library, then they should go visit the Cerritos Library. Most of the kids laughed, but I became excited. Our school and local library lack some things to be desired and are a bit behind the times.
Mr. Smartie said that the library had a lot of technological features, including an interactive aquarium. He said that he was happy libraries were being made with elements that would encourage young people to go to the library more.
After dinner, I told my dad that I would need a ride to Cerritos to go to the library. He asked why I couldn’t use the local library and I told him that there was a specific book there that I needed for class. I don’t like it when I lie, but I really wanted to go see the library Mr. Smartie kept talking so passionately about.
My little brother, Chris, was being a pest and needs to go everywhere I go, so he wanted to come too. I can’t wait to get my license in another couple of years!
I couldn’t believe how much better the Cerritos Library was from our local library! The design of the building was very unique and the inside was even better. My dad was excited that the library was audio video integrated and had plasma monitors. It also had a huge wall of video screens. My dad said he was happy smart people made a place bringing technology and education together.
I was really interested to check out the interactive aquarium. It was better than I expected. It was very technologically advanced, but it was easy enough for Chris to use (of course Chris had to see the aquarium too). You could make your own underwater scenes and then see them played on computer workstations throughout the library! I wanted to make a scene where Chris gets eaten by piranhas, but I will have to wait for technology to catch up with my ideas.
We stayed for some time, Chris and I did our homework, and then we left. Dad said that he would take us there anytime we wanted especially if we are going to do homework. I think I have found a new hang out, I just wish we could find Chris a new family!
